Cupid was with us before we started BSEA, and was the first horse in our lesson program. She taught us so many lessons about ourselves, horses, and just life. To know and love Cupid was a gift. She was a very expressive mare, and never hid what she was feeling. Especially if she wanted help with something, like scratches and massages. She was always honest, always communicating. Her death was, and will continue to be a great loss to our family, both horse and human. She is and will always be greatly missed.

As a teacher for over half of her life, Cupid was the first horse that many, many people rode. She matched her energy, her attitude and her lessons to each individual person, going from looking like she was gently walking on egg shells and turning at the slightest hint of pressure with the littler kids, to gracefully loping through gymkhana patterns with the more confident youth and adults. When Cupid ran, she was so light on her feet that it felt and looked like she was flying. She was so patient as she was groomed and decorated, with her forelock made into a unicorn horn and her mane braided with flowers and ribbons.

"We have so many beautiful memories with Cupid."

"Cupid was my daughter's favourite and she is grateful for the time she got to spend with her."

"I loved Cupid because she was just the right size for me and she was the first horse I could get on by myself....and she listened better than the others."

"Cupid was a lovely little horse and super sweet💕"

"Cupid was an amazing horse, she taught me so much"

"Cupid was the best, she made me feel so safe on trail rides."

"My Granddaughter really bonded with Cupid. She was such a special horse"

"I felt so at peace with Cupid, I wish I could have one more ride with her ."

Before Cupid came to live with us she tragically lost her first two foals. They were both born full term, but with a genetic condition that caused them to die shortly after birth. She always loved foals and was an amazing babysitter for Star when she was weaned, so we were able to find a stallion (Cas) who was not a carrier of the lethal white gene. Warwick was a large baby for such a dainty mare, but she was tough and had no trouble with him, other than a really big belly by the end of the pregnancy. She loved hip massages and would block us if we tried to leave without giving her one. We were fortunate enough to see the majority of the birth, and witness his first steps. We were also fortunate in that our son and Cupid's were born the same spring so we got to share in all the pregnancy/new baby joys with her.

The memories that we have of Cupid will be forever cherished.

“While time will fade, these hoof prints,

the ones you left on my heart, will never disappear”
